Angsty Marcelo (238 words)

His eyes narrowed as he crouched down on the rooftop. The man dressed like a bat used his heightened sense of hearing to search for the next bit of crime. Gunshots especially. The less drugs and guns on the street, even in this foreign land, the more he felt vindicated for this responsibility he chose for himself. He knew, without a doubt, his mother would have never wanted this for him. Never in forever.

He couldn't have stopped what happened to her. He was too young and scared to even try throwing himself in front of those bullets that ripped through the car and her. A wrong turn that had lead to the wrong place at the worst time. He still remembered her last rattling breath. She hadn't died instantly. She had lingered long enough to beg God that her son was safe. His ears hadn't been chemically augmented then, but all he had heard was the last shaky wheeze and then silence. Supposedly gunfire still cracked outside the car, but he hadn't heard it.

He could still hear the echoes of him begging his mother to wake up. To come back. His eyes were dry now. The man shrouded in darkness on the roof. His jaw clenched tightly at the crack of a gun. Vesper leapt from the roof and took to the skies. His need to get revenge on all the careless, macho men pushing him.
